I work and am in Laguna Beach 90% percent of the week but never knew about this hidden gem in the canyon. Such an easy walk to the lake and it is just so peaceful. Plug in Barbara's Lake on your maps, itll take you to a parking lot on your right if you are facing away from the ocean. It is $3 for parking, and you just follow the trail signs that say lake on them, you will come across one though where you can go left or right to go to the upper or lower view of the lake, go right! Much better view from the top. Happy hiking!!
Ho Chi Minh Trail leads you to Blacks Beach, one of the best surfing spots in san diego. Whats so cool about this trail is it has Sand Steps carved out by erosion from surfers and hikers feet from over the years, you have to squeeze between the cliffs to make it down to the beach. Toward the bottom of the trail there is a small waterfall too! Its a short hike down to the beach it'll take you 10-15 minutes to get to the beach from the top of the trail. My best friend and I had a blast exploring this hike and surf spot and then went and had fun in PB. We suggest you go to CRUSHED for mimosa flights because they are SO good!! Pineapple upside down was my favorite! Here is the address for Ho Chi Minh Trail: 9883 La Jolla Farms Rd La Jolla, CA 92037. Address for Crushed: 967 Garnet Ave San Diego, CA 92109 -- Happy Exploring!
The purpose of life, after all, is to LIVE it. - - Eleanor Roosevelt Rock Pool - Malibu Creek State Beach -
Last weekend I took my brother and girls to one of my favorite places, rock pool! Malibu creek state park is only $12 for the day and they have tons of trails to explore, but the best one by far is rock pool. In the summer its filled with people hanging out on the rocks, jumping from the rocks in the water and floating in the water.. we went when it was drizzling outside so we actually were the only ones there, which was also cool to experience. Rock pool is easy to find.. park in the first lot you see on your left once you are in Malibu creek state park, then walk under the curved tree down the stairs on your right (picture above..). Keep going straight, you will cross a bridge and go straight until you come to a fork in the road, you go left at the fork and continue to go straight until u reach the picnic tables. Walk down past the picnic tables and keep going straight for about 3 minutes until u see rock pool on your left. Bring a swimsuit and a lunch and have fun! Point Dume - Malibu Point Dume is one of new favorite beach spots. They have a 4 mile hike option but we opted for just parking at the end of the bluff and going to the lookout spot and beach. My pictures don't do this place justice... it is SO pretty! You are on a dirt trail surrounded by daisies and they have this awesome set of stairs that lead to the rocky beach cove at the end and it is just breathtaking. (pictures above) If you are planning a trip to Malibu, this should definitely be on your list of stops, I know I will be coming back here in the summer for sure! This is one of the prettiest hikes in laguna. It's got a few steep hills so its an awesome workout too! The trail makes a full 3.5ish mile loop, if you arent feeling up to the whole thing then just head up the first hill and you'll already see an amazing view of the canyon and ocean. So many awesome hiking spots in laguna beach i LOVE it! Type in laguna bowl rd in maps on your smartphone then park next to the tire swing on the street and go up the trail straight ahead.. Happy exploring! To adventure is to find yourself whole. Looking for a fun morning adventure with friends? I have the perfect place in mind. It's hidden away in Cabrillo National monument past the tide pools. You have to climb in the smallish cave entrance and then it opens up to a cave with a huge hole opening at the top, and two smaller openings where water comes in, (you can see one of the openings behind us in the picture). This is the perfect spot to explore in the morning with friends, we stayed for a little and then went to get coffee and Banzaii Bowls at BUZZED, that is a local favorite place that was amazing!
Okay so how do i get to this secret cave? Plug in Cabrillo National Monument into your phone. That will take you to the site entrance, there is a gate fee, i think its $5. Oh, and the monument doesn't open until 9 so keep that in mind! You want to be there right at 9 though because if you go any later you risk it being high tide and you won't be able to reach the cave! You can only go when it is LOW TIDE! Both times i have been, i went at 9 and was totally fine. Okay next you want to drive down the steep hill, with the view of the beautiful ocean on your right, keep going and park in the second to last lot. On your left you should see a trail, follow that down to the tide pools, there will be a set of stairs you go down as well, (see picture below for stairs), then go all the way to your far right, as far as you can and you will see caution tape saying do not pass.. pass that.. haha. You can see the small cave entrance to the left (picture below of my sis and her bf shows the entrance). Walk across the marshy stuff to get to the cave, and climb down the entrance to the opening of a huge secret cave! This is the COOLEST part! You guys are going to love it, it makes you feel like you are in Pirates of the Caribbean or something! Feel free to call or text or email if you have any questions about the Secret Cave or any other Adventure related questions! Happy Adventuring! |
